Overview

The RocketReader speed timings are designed to test and record your reading speed improvements over time. You can use the speed timing results to precisely monitor your advancement through RocketReader. Whenever you do a speed timing RocketReader will automatically choose the next text in the series. The text of the speed test is carefully selected to be of uniform consistency.

Each reading is about 5 pages of text. After you select a speed timing the Speed Timing window appears:

You can start and stop the reading when you use the timer menu. The text scrolls on the screen when you hold the down arrow on the keyboard.

If you have selected the timer-start option RocketReader will carefully measure and report your reading speed.

When you have finished reading the text you can then do a comprehension test to determine your understanding of the material.

RocketReader keeps track of your speed and comprehension. The bar-chart that follows shows the result of each speed test as a separate bar in the chart. The number at the top of the chart indicates the exact speed achieved on the speed test. So the first speed test done in RocketReader recorded a speed of 180 words per minute. The last speed test done recorded a speed of 430 words per minute.

The Menu Items

The "Timer" menu allows you to start and stop a timing. Pause is provided in case you are interrupted and would like to stop the clock. The timing is automatically calculated when you finish the speed test.

The Font Menu

The "Font" menu allows you to increase or decrease the size of the text on the screen. This is important as an easy-to-read size can be selected.

The View Menu

The The "View" menu option allows you to select a new practice reading, or examine a graph of your speed test results.
